Let's Talk Wedding Songs

So many couples struggle picking wedding songs, depending on what kind of ceremony you’re having there are so many opportunities throughout the day for music and you want to include the music you love but make sure that everyone else enjoys it too. One of my fondest memories of wedding planning is sitting on the floor of my now husband’s man cave going through an endless number of Spotify playlists and blogs to find the perfect songs for our ceremony and first dance. As it turns out I couldn’t be happier with the songs we chose. I walked in to Marry Me by train, we had When The Right One Comes Along by the Nashville Cast for signing the register and walked out to Gone Gone Gone by Philip Phillips. To top it all off we had our first dance to Die a Happy Man by Thomas Rhett. This is my little collection of songs that would be fantastic at any point during your day, in case I can help anyone make their search for the perfect music a little quicker.

WARNING: some of these songs are a little (okay, a lot) cheesy but who doesn’t love a bit of cheese 😍

Something Classic

Elvis Costello – She

Anyone who was around in the 90's or early 00's will remember this song from Notting Hill, and how could you not love it? If you haven't seen it - watch it immediately. "She maybe the reason I survive, The why and wherefore I'm alive"

Frank Sinatra – You Make Me Feel So Young/ The Way You Look Tonight

I LOVE Frank Sinatra, any of his songs will have you and your guests transported into a bygone era, perfect to add a touch of old fashioned romance.

Rod Stewart – Have I Told You Lately

There's also the original by Van Morrison, but personally I just prefer the Rod Stewart version. "There's a love that's divine, And it's yours and it's mine, Like the sun"

Stevie Wonder – I Just Called To Say I Love You

This one is kind of self explanatory, all you need to know is in the title. "I just called to say I love you, And I mean it from the bottom of my heart"

Etta James – At Last

"At last my love has come along, My lonely days are over and life is like a song" Kinda perfect right?

Something Country

Shania Twain – From this Moment On

Yes it's a little cheesy, but who cares? It perfectly sums up how most people feel towards their partner "From this moment, life has begun, From this moment, you are the one"

Hunter Hayes – I Want Crazy

Perfect for whirlwind romances, or unconventional couples "But I don't want "good" and I don't want "good enough," I want "can't sleep, can't breathe without your love"

Luke Bryan – Play it Again

One of my favorite songs, a little less of an obvious choice, but I still think it works well If you haven't heard it then it's certainly worth a listen it's full of super happy, new romance vibes. "She was like, come here boy, I wanna dance,'Fore I said a word, she was takin' my hand, Spinnin' me around 'til it faded out, And she gave me a kiss"

Tim McGraw ft. Faith Hill – It’s Your Love

"Better than I was, More than I am, And all of this happened, By taking your hand"

Marren Morris – The Bones

For those couples who have been through some really difficult times but are still going "Yeah, life sure can try to put love through it, but, We built this right, so nothing's ever gonna move it"

For the Pop Lovers

Ed Sheeran – Thinking out loud/Perfect

Let's face it, you could use pretty much anything by Ed Sheeran and it would work... he's a wedding song prodigy.

Christina Perri – A Thousand Years

This is a very popular one, and it's clear why. "I have died everyday, waiting for you Darling, don't be afraid, I have loved you for a thousand years, I'll love you for a thousand more" particularly perfect for walking down the isle.

John Legend – All Of Me

I mean, if you've heard it (and if not then where have you been?) then you understand why it's a perfect wedding song. "You're my end and my beginning, even when I lose I'm winning"

Boyce Avenue – Teenage Dream

This is a dialed down and absolutely beautiful version of Katy Perry's Teenage dream. "Before you met me, I was alright, but things, Were kinda heavy, You brought me to life"

Pharrell – Happy

Not your traditional kind of wedding song, but what could be more perfect for a wedding than a song about happiness? I can see this being perfect for exiting the ceremony. "Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof"

Rock

Aerosmith – I don’t want to miss a thing

An absolute classic rock ballad, and perfect first dance song. "I could spend my life in this sweet surrender, I could stay lost in this moment forever"

Starship – Nothing’s Gonne Stop us now

"And we can build this thing together, Standing strong forever, Nothing's gonna stop us now"

Goo Goo Dolls – Iris

"And I'd give up forever to touch you,'Cause I know that you feel me somehow" Who doesn't love this song!?

Foo Fighters – Everlong

"And I wonder, When I sing along with you, If everything could ever feel this real forever,If anything could ever be this good again" Great if you're looking for something that doesn't sound like a mushy song but definitely is.

Other

Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness – Fire Escape

"You're my number one, You're the reason I'm still up at dawn, Just to see your face" one of my favorite songs by my all time favorite artist, such a beautiful song and something a little bit different.

Paramore – The only Exception

"And that was the day that I promised I'd never sing of love if it does not exist, but darlin' You are, the only exception" not particularly upbeat, it's true, but lovely nonetheless

The Phantom Of the Opera – All I Ask of You

One for the musical theater fans! "Let me be your shelter, let me be your light"

Elton John – Can you Feel the Love Tonight

Another obvious one but this song has everything - Elton John, Disney, beautiful music, What more do you want? "And can you feel the love tonight? It is where we are"

The King and I – Shall we Dance?

A bit of an on the nose first dance song... "Shall we still be together with our arms around each other"

Arctic Monkeys – Baby I’m Yours

I love this one, and almost nobody will expect the arctic monkeys at a wedding

"Baby won't you understand that your wish is my command"
